Michelle Ensey is the State Archaeologist and Deputy State Historic Preservation Officer of New Mexico and is also currently serving in the role of Co-Interim Director of the Office of Archaeological Studies along with her colleague, Deputy Director at the New Mexico Historic Sites Division, Matt Barbour. Ms. Ensey has been with the Historic Preservation Division for over 22 years. She supervises a staff of five archaeologists who review projects for compliance under state and federal historic preservation laws, archaeological permits, and the New Mexico SiteWatch program. Ms. Ensey has a Master of Arts degree in Anthropology from Washington State University and a Bacheolor of Science degree in Anthropology from Central Washington University with a minor in Business Administration. Prior to working at the Historic Preservation Division, Ms. Ensey worked at Southwest Archaeological Consultants and Bandelier National Monument.
